Colombia: Working Toward a Sustainable Ecosystem
Presented April 16, 2000 at the SCAA Convention in San Francisco by Jorge Eduardo Botero, Ph.D., Researcher Cenicafé

Based upon Cenicafé's (National Center for Coffee Research) extensive research, this presentation provides an overview of the coffee-growing regions of Colombia, exploring their diverse landscape and the vast flora and fauna they support. Of particular interest are the 230 bird species that have been documented in the coffee regions to date. In addition, an in-depth view of Colombian coffee farms' various land-uses, crops and growing systems is provided.

Cenicafé (National Center for Coffee Research) is the Federation's coffee research facility. Created in 1938, it was the first research center to be exclusively devoted to the exploration and development of coffee science and technology. Today, Cenicafé is the recognized leader in bringing the latest cultivation, harvesting, post-production, processing, disease, pest control and other sustainable practices to the coffee world.
